Making sure your website is always up

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Many of you that read this blog are probably having a website or blog of your own. I think that most of you have experienced problems with your web host. I just wanted to share with you that I for another web project of mine recently signed up for a hosting plan with Globat and I didn’t experience any problems at all in the start-up phase (which usually always happen) and now after a couple of weeks, the site still runs very smooth even though I had to contact them to change PHP version. Most web hosts doesn’t even let you change PHP version (read more in this guide to PHP). I will soon let you know about my new project but this far, it’s a secret ?.

Youtube and Airtel have a pretty similar logo

Monday, July 14th, 2008

Logo of Youtube and Logo of Airtel

Airtel and Youtube logo looks similar (Looks seventy to eighty percent similar to me), like a case of great minds thinking alike or a simple copy. YouTube is the largest video hosting website in the world and Airtel is the largest cell phone service provider in India and their logo looks alike. The tag lines, “Broadcast Yourself” and “Express Yourself” is also same. If it is not the case of great mind thinking alike then it is YouTube copying from Airtel. A fellow blogger thinks it is a case of  great minds thinking alike.

A working website to detect invisible users on Yahoo messenger

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

If you think your friend on Yahoo is ignoring you or is trying to appear offline to you then you will love this tool for sure. I thought this website will be really helpful for our users and thus decided to post a review.

Ydetector is a very good tool to help you find friends who appear offline to you. Unlike many other invisble detectors this one works. After some intense checking and cross checking we came to the conclusion that it works and doesn’t show the ‘Server is Busy’ error unlike other websites. Some of the other services like this cannot detect people who are invisible on Yahoo messenger, so they simple show the ’server is busy’ error

Another interesting thing is that it can also check for status of Yahoo users in WebMessenger. Other Yahoo invisible detectors cannot detect if people have opted to ignore who are not in their messenger list but the new version which is going to come soon will have the capability to do it.

I talked to the owner of this website and he tell me that a new version of Ydetector is going to come very soon and he did show me and it had a very elegant and simple design.

Click here to go and check out Yahoo invisible detector.

Do note that their new version is coming up soon and tech36 is going to break the news about the new release very soon.

Speed up Utorrent dowloads

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

First of all you have to be practical, you cannot expect a very high download speed if you have a bad internet connection. If you have a good internet connection, say 512 kbps download and still you are getting 5 kBps download speed then you are in trouble. In s 512 kbps connection you should atleast get 60 kbps.

Download a torrent with lots of seeds and a good ratio which is indicated by a green colour in websites like mininova. Seeds means the people who are giving you or uploading the data from their computer which you are downloading. Good ratio means that the number of people who are uploading are more than the number of people who are downloading.

Set an upload limit on uTorrent. This probably is a myth, I saw many people telling that, so what the heck, just set an upload limit, say 10 kBps.

Switch off your firewall. Obviously a firewall will not allow a program like utorrent (not a spyware but is a medium for piracy) to upload data or download it, so it will stop it torrent from being downloaded and hence the torrent will show a red mark.

If you still want more speed, then you have to get a new connection from your isp.

Can Orkut get funnier?

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Orkut LogoOrkut is the social networking website run by Google. It has been around for quiet a while and is giving some tough competition for myspace and facebook. Orkut can be used with your Google account or any other email ID. Important features of Orkut include sending scraps, messages, testimonials and albums.

Recently Orkut went under a complete change. The old simple look was gone and the new look was brought into it. Many many new features were added into it, especially applications and stuff like that.

Well the funny part about Orkut is that it is just evolving into the next facebook. Look at the similarities, applications are a common thing to both and some of the applications are same but with different names. Well Wall in facebook was like a modification of Scrapbook on Orkut. Who in the world had the idea of telling “Bad, bad server. No donut for you”? (This may result in my website being banned from Google, pray that they take it with a sense of humor). Its Google we are talking about, the egg heads (smart fellows) there should be quick in fixing stuff like this.

“Can Orkut get funnier?” was a cliche, I do a lot of working around on Orkut, social networking and stuff, but I expect a lot more from guys at Google. Some people do say that Orkut is just Google’s way of tracking its users (well it can be true!). I work a lot on Orkut (now I have stopped) and will be a private eye to spot errors on it and report it (here and to guys at Google). You do that too.

Just like the design, we at Tech36 are experimenting with the link structure. The new difference in the link structure is that date comes in between.

This trend is a new trial. We will let you know if this was beneficial for the website ranking and visitors.

Google note this, notebook feature

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Here is something fun that you can do on Google, if you have a Google account. Note some of the interesting web pages that you come across Google search. There are lot of such cool features on Google that we miss. So it is suggested that you have a Google Account before you search on Google.

Google\'s notebook feature

The screen shot shows the Google notebook. After making the search, below each search result, you can see the note this link (only if you have a Google account). When you click on the note this link, a box will open up asking you for some additional details. With note this feature, you can have an online bookmark list. Google is also doing its part to get into the social bookmarking region.

Keep looking around in Google, you will find many features like this. Let us know if you know any.

Text generator clarification

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Tech36 recently launched a new in house software, Text Generator. Many people, especially from Digital Point appeared clueless about why I made such tool.

Please remember, this tool was not made to fool search engines or increase page rank of your website (I have clearly mentioned about Googlebot being smart). It was a trial software made in Delphi.

To prevent massive abuse of search engine spamming, I didn’t allow people to copy text that it had generated.

This software was a trial version and doesn’t have 1% of the power that the full version has. The full version of this software will be released in 3-4 months.

3-4 nanotechnology products are coming weekly

Monday, April 28th, 2008

This is an astonishing fact, products of atomic structure or one which is very small is hitting the market at the rate of 3-4 per week. This shows the amount of development that is taking place in the world on nanotechnology.

Any device which has a size lesser than 100 nm comes under the category of nanotechnology. The first idea about Nanotechnology was brought in by Richard Feynman in 1959.
